Stress

Stress

“They” say that moving house is one of the most stressful events in life. After the last couple of days, I can confirm that the task continues to maintain a spot in a top ten list of things that I really, really don’t enjoy.

As I look for pictures to add to this post, I keep seeing smiling couples, like they’re having THE MOST FUN EVER. While wearing matching white t-shirts. Please. I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry.Young couple resting from moving into a new home

The actual point of this post is that sometimes we will push ourselves to the limit out of sheer necessity. But, we still have to make the time to look after ourselves, take care of ourselves, give ourselves a break.

I’m lucky to have a job that I love. Work for me is a retreat, a haven. After this week, I’m also turning to this great list of 50 Ways to Take a Break and wanted to share it with you. ENJOY your break!

50 ways to take a break

Fabulous Five

Fabulous Five

I’m having a bit of a wow moment. Five years ago today, I officially became a qualified Massage Therapist and started a very new journey. Nautilus Dublin Massage

In my previous working life, I was an executive assistant and worked a lot of hours supporting high level, very busy, very stressed out people. I decided that life was too short for that degree of anxiety and stress, and I decided to make a massive change.

When I see how far I’ve come, it’s truly humbling and my “work” still makes me ridiculously happy.

Even this week, I’ve had clients comment on the changes their regular massage treatments have made to their lives, beyond what they originally came in for.

One is training for their first marathon, but noticed that overall their stress level has decreased significantly at work and at home, and they feel they are dealing with issues in a much calmer, clear-headed way.

Another client, said that partially based on their first treatment, they decided to make some positive changes to their health, the biggest one being that they quit smoking.

Nautilus Dublin Thank YouBeing a working therapist and business owner is the hardest, yet most rewarding work I’ve ever done. A massive thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey. I’m excited to see what the next five years hold!

Baby Massage

Baby Massage

Baby Massage is a truly wonderful skill to learn and is beneficial to both baby and parent. As a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, my role is to provide a relaxed and welcoming environment where parents are able to and encouraged to respond to their baby’s needs while learning massage strokes.

Definitely DO NOT worry about what happens if your baby is the one to cry, spit-up, poop all over, sleep, feed. . it’s what baby’s do, and I’ve seen it all. pouting babyThe ethos of these classes is that they are baby-led and flexible; we’re all in this together.

In case you’re wondering, I don’t massage your baby. These classes are a special, focused bonding time for you and your child. What I will do is demonstrate the massage stokes using a doll. Baby massage is suitable for newborns up to one year of age or before they reach the crawling/trying to walk phase.

During class, you’ll also get to share experiences and knowledge with each other, or a laugh or a cry, or a request or share a surplus of diapers or other treats collected at the most recent baby fair or event. New friendships and support networks have been formed in these classes, which is wonderful to see.

Some of the benefits of massaging your baby include: relieving colic & wind, promoting relaxation & aiding sleep, helping with weight gain & building immunity, aiding the bonding process & can assist in the recovery from post-natal depression.

If you have private insurance, most insurers will reimburse a portion of your class costs. Be sure to check your individual plan for details. The 5 week course is €125 and that includes massage stroke handouts so you don’t have to worry about remembering everything from class, massage oil, tea/coffee, and more! Each session lasts approximately an hour, sometimes a little longer.

Our next group class starts Wednesday, 18th of May at 10am, or you can find dates for future classes here. If you prefer, you can also schedule one-to-one classes.  Please feel free to get in touch with any questions or to book your space!

Customised Treatments

Customised Treatments

I love being able to customise a treatment to help clients get the most out of their sessions at Nautilus Dublin. Sometimes the focus is to relax and reduce stress levels. Other times, it’s to relieve muscle tightness, manage pain and improve flexibility.

One of today’s clients is training for the Dublin marathon and completed a VERY long run yesterday – 30km!

To help the body recover, I combined a Swedish massage targeting the legs, back, neck and shoulders with the use of specific essential oils. If you run, you may notice the tendency to raise your shoulders, which can cause tension in the back.  To help further encourage the recovery process, I also used an essential oil blend of lavender, lemongrass, rosemary and vetiver in an almond oil base.

These essential oils help relieve over-exertion with warming, pain relieving, anti-inflammatory properties and are especially effective when used during a massage.

Hello 2016!

Hello 2016!

I don’t know about you, but I’m a little shocked that we’re already three days into a new year. Talk about a page turner – a new year brings with it hopes, dreams, renewed energy, and pressure. The pressure to make changes, do more, be better. Frankly, it can be overwhelming.

Be sure you take time to simply be. Rest. Breathe. Relax. Be thankful for what you already are, for what you already have.

So, strive to be the version of you that brings you happiness, peace, and contentment. As my 91 year old grandmother likes to say, “life is not a dress rehearsal”.

Wishing us all a happy & healthy 2016!

Total Relaxation

Total Relaxation

Total relaxation is how we would describe our 75 minute Nautilus Signature Facial.

When you arrive, you’ll enjoy a hydrating glass of citrus or herbal infused water while you and your therapist chat about your main skin concerns and goals for your facial. The therapist will review your current skin condition and determine your skin type. Based on this conversation, specific products will be selected to suit your skin type/concerns.

You’ll then sit back and relax while easing your feet into a bowl of warm water for a soothing soak. This helps to relax the body and mind as the focus is on the feet, which can be a very grounding experience and help ease any stress or distractions in your mind.

After this, the therapist will assist you onto the plinth for your facial. The luxurious Neal’s Yard Remedies skincare products selected for your facial will help soothe, hydrate & nourish. Choosing the perfect blend of essential oils and plant extracts make this treatment the ultimate stress reliever as the aromas work on balancing the body, mind, and soul.

You’ll finish your Nautilus Signature Facial experience with an organic herbal tea. This lovely head to toe treatment will leave you feeling rested and refreshed with a beautiful, healthy glow to your skin.

Contact Nautilus on 01 534 0003 or NautilusDublin@gmail.com to book your session of total relaxation.

After you have completed a course of reflexology treatment for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.
