Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid

In the world of skincare and beauty, we hear so much about hyaluronic acid. What is it? Do we need it? What’s it in? Is it all just marketing hype?

As Natural Health Magazine describes, hyaluronic acid is “your body’s own hydrating molecule, often referred to as nature’s moisturiser and it can absorb up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Great! The bad news? Like collagen, our natural levels deplete as we age.” water

One of the easiest ways to temporarily boost our levels is with good quality skincare and makeup products. For example, the Jane Iredale liquid mineral foundation contains this ingredient which will help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Jane Iredale Nautilus Dublin Spring 2016

The Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Firming Mask also contains this wonder ingredient. This is a firming, soothing mask that helps to rejuvenate the skin. I LOVE using it in our Nautilus Dublin facials!

Do you look for products containing hyaluronic acid?  Have you seen positive results? I’ve been using the Jane Iredale liquid mineral foundation since January. I find that the texture of my skin is smoother, the fine laughter lines around my eyes (sun damage!) don’t seem as noticeable, and overall I’m very happy with the results!

Nighttime Cleansing Routine – Step 3

Nighttime Cleansing Routine – Step 3

I’m going to pop in step 2A first. After cleansing, we should really tone. A skin toner helps to remove any remaining traces of make-up or cleanser and also helps to balance and refresh the skin. I must admit, I’m guilty of being a part-time toner. When I do include this quick and easy step, I love using the Neal’s Yard Remedies Rehydrating Rose Toner. This is a beautifully scented, rehydrating toner that will leave your skin feeling its best!

The final step, #3, is moisturising. Most of the year I use the Neal’s Yard Remedies Rehydrating Rose Daily Moisture. This is a lightweight lotion that is quickly absorbed into the skin. It also has a gentle rose smell, not that cloying artificial rose fragrance so many people think of when they hear rose. As an essential oil, rose is a very grounding oil, and it’s amazing for the skin – helping to reduce redness and the appearance of broken capillaries, while being very soothing and is a great option for those with sensitive skin.

In the colder months when the heating is on and moisture is being pulled from the air, I will reach for another Neal’s Yard Remedies product, their Frankincense Hydrating Cream. A cream base gives this product a richer, more moisture rich consistency and is fantastic for rehydrating skin. Frankincense essential oil is another incredible skin oil and can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

In addition to products, nutrition plays an important role in improving and maintaining skin health and good condition. Water, water, water is your friend! We should strive to drink one to three litres of water a day! This makes a big, positive difference.

Facial Massage

I came across this great skincare tip from the NYR Organic U.S. team (part of the Neal’s Yard Remedies family), “Take the time to give your skin a regular weekly facial massage and you’ll reap the rewards! A simple massage can help revitalize and refresh your complexion and help boost your skin’s natural radiance! Tip: Use a couple drops of the facial oil for your skin type.”

If you’re in need of a facial oil or balm, consider choosing a Soil Association certified product, such as the Neal’s Yard Remedies Wild Rose Beauty Balm or their Frankincense Facial Oil. As our largest organ, our skin absorbs approximately 60% of what we apply to it. Doesn’t it make sense that we should be applying natural products that are safe & free from nasty chemicals whenever possible?

Here’s a fantastic video that shows you how to do your own facial massage at home, which is particularly helpful for draining excess fluid and congestion during seasonal allergy & hay fever time! If you’d like to talk about your skin concerns, why not book in for a facial at Nautilus? We will customise your treatment using specific products to suit your skin type & needs. Hay Fever and Seasonal Allergies

Hay Fever and Seasonal Allergies

Today we’re talking about summer ailments, particularly hay fever & seasonal allergies.

Did you know? Hay fever is an autoimmune system reaction to pollen. Popular advice is to eat local honey to help build up your body’s familiarity and resistance to the effects of local pollen.  Ideally, you’ll want to find pure, cold-filtered honey for the most benefits. Check out the amazing Hiveshare program at Brookfield Farm: http://www.brookfield.farm/pages/brookfield-farm-hiveshare

For the other tips below, we are recommending Soil Association certified products from Neal’s Yard Remedies who strongly believes, “Health is the most important thing to us. When formulating and making our products, we follow the precautionary principle – which means not using anything we believe could cause you, or the planet harm.”

Supplements are also an important treatment for hay fever.  Vitamin C helps boost the immune system.  The Neal’s Yard Remedies Super-Antioxidant Boost supplement protects us from free radical damage which may lower immune function and make us susceptible to hay fever.  Prices vary widely when it comes to supplements.  This is because of the filler material.  Many other capsules are coated in a material that won’t break down as it passes through the body & can pass entirely through the body without releasing any benefits.  Neal’s Yard Remedies supplements and vitamins are all plant based.  Their Vitamin C is Ester C based, which is slow release and much easier on the digestive system.

Also with hay fever, people often suffer from itchy eyes.  Again, Neal’s Yard Remedies has two amazing products which can help greatly, their White Tea Eye Gel and White Tea Facial Mist.  They have the Eyebright herb which stops the itching around the eye area. These are cooling products but can be kept in the fridge for that extra boost of cooling relief to further calm & ease the body’s inflammatory response.

For those who suffer with dry, itchy throats during allergy season, the Elderberry Syrup is great. It is high in Vitamin C and soothes the itchy dryness.  It has a fruit flavour, and you just need to add a little bit into a glass of water or other beverage.

The Summer Tea is also great for hay fever/allergy season.  You can enjoy it hot or cold and even add a teaspoon of your local honey! This also contains the Eyebright herb as well as nettle, which is anti-inflammatory.  It also has peppermint, which many people find cooling.

Use the aromatherapy blend “Cleanse” oil to help you breathe easier as it refreshes a room

Do you suffer from eczema or psoriasis and address these conditions through dietary means? If so, the Calendula or Stellaria Cream can be a great support.  The Calendula Cream is better suited for cracked, weepy skin and the Stellaria Cream is great for soothing itchy, red, unbroken skin.

If you’re interested in any of the products mentioned above, contact us on 01 534 0003 or via NautilusDublin@gmail.com. I’m off to brew a cup of Summer Tea for a bit of relief!

Cheers & sneezes,

Soften and hydrate your hands with the Neal’s Yard Remedies #1 client favourite, their Wild Rose Beauty Balm, which contains rosehip oil – a potent antioxidant proven to help repair, firm and smooth the skin. A mask is applied to the hands and covered with hot towels.

This is an incredibly nourishing and balancing treatment for body and mind.  75 mins – €75

Dry Skin?

Dry Skin?

I don’t know about you, but this cold winter weather is wrecking my skin! Dry hands, flaking cuticles and it’s time to do something about it.  Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise, from the inside out.  You’ve heard it before, but drinking 1-3 litres of water a day really does make a difference. Not a fan of boring, plain water? Throw in a slice of citrus – lemon, lime, orange – you’ll be amazed how much nicer your water will taste, plus you’re getting an added bonus of vitamin C!

For moisturising & bringing softness back to our skin, we love using the Neal’s Yard Remedies range of hand lotions, creams and body butters. Neal’s Yard Remedies believes, “Health is the most important thing to us. When formulating and making our products, we follow the precautionary principle – which means not using anything we believe could cause you, or the planet harm.
