There’s something very calming about cleansing my face in the evening. There’s a ritual and a reason to it. You can envision letting go of the day and bringing a sense of closure to it. Although, maybe that’s how tired I am, and I just go into a trance!
Even if you view it as more of chore than anything, taking off your make-up and the remains of the day (think pollution, dust, dirt, sweat, city grime) is so important to help keep your skin looking its very best.
My routine is fairly basic: remove eye make-up, cleanse, tone (admittedly only sometimes) and moisturise. I always use products from the Neal’s Yard Remedies range and tend to change them seasonally depending on my skin’s needs. Their natural, organic ingredients are not only effective but I also like knowing I’m not exposing my skin to unnecessary harsh chemicals or ingredients.
With the Neal’s Yard Remedies eye make-up remover, I simply put a small amount on a cotton disc and swipe over my eyes. This is a very gentle product that even removes waterproof mascara. There’s no burning or stinging if you get any extra product in your eyes. It contains nourishing rose, hydrating aloe vera, and antioxidant rich white tea, all of which help to condition the lashes and moisturise the thinner skin around the eye. As with all of the products from Neal’s Yard Remedies, a little bit goes a long way and the 100ml bottle of eye make-up remover will last you ages. I usually get around six months out of a bottle!

11:15-11:45am – Participate in a morning meditation and then learn more about Reiki with an introductory talk with Susan of Soul Connexions. Reiki is a wonderful modality to have if you are already practicing healing or dealing with people in your daily work life. This wonderful energy brings peace, calm & love to all aspects of you and your life.
12noon-12:30pm – Learn a little about eating well from Linda, a qualified dietitian/nutritionist. She’ll share useful information with you about simple changes you can make to help ensure you meet all aspects of your body’s needs, nutritionally. Learn about our upcoming nutrition workshops and one-to-one consultations with Linda while enjoying some tasty treats.

I was just reading an interesting article about how massage therapy can help arthritis sufferers. A number of studies have shown that, in general, massage can help reduce and relieve pain. In addition to receiving regular massage from a qualified therapist who would know how to adjust a treatment accordingly, there are self-massage techniques that can be quite beneficial.
“As part of the study “Rheumatoid arthritis in upper limbs benefits from moderate pressure massage therapy,” conducted by Tiffany Field, PhD, director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine, participants were taught a self-massage protocol that proved helpful in reducing the pain associated with their arthritis.
The following self-massage was specific to the arm and shoulder:
> Stroking. Stroking from the wrist to the shoulder with moderate pressure, then from the shoulder back to the wrist three times. On the top of the hand, stroke from the wrist to the tips of the fingers and back to the
wrist. Repeat on the underside of the arm.
> Milking. On the top of the arm, cup fingers with thumb on the underside, pulling the flesh between them and gradually moving down to wrist and back up to shoulder from the wrist. Again, use moderate pressure. Repeat on bottom of the arm.
> Friction. Make circular movements with four fingers on top of the arm, moving across the shoulder and down the arm and top of hand. Repeat same on underside of arm.
> Skin rolling. Similar to the milking, squeeze the arm between the fingers and the thumb, then crawl fingers across skin with moderate pressure, first on top of arm and then underside of the arm and top of shoulder.”

Total relaxation is how we would describe our 75 minute Nautilus Signature Facial.

Low Back Pain. Did I get your attention? That kind of pain has gotten mine! Like many of our massage clients, I usually suffer from shoulder & neck pain – stress does not nice things to our bodies! Recently though, I’ve become well acquainted with low back pain. It’s distracting & frankly makes me feel older than I should!
