“They” say that moving house is one of the most stressful events in life. After the last couple of days, I can confirm that the task continues to maintain a spot in a top ten list of things that I really, really don’t enjoy.

The actual point of this post is that sometimes we will push ourselves to the limit out of sheer necessity. But, we still have to make the time to look after ourselves, take care of ourselves, give ourselves a break.

I’m lucky to have a job that I love. Work for me is a retreat, a haven. After this week, I’m also turning to this great list of 50 Ways to Take a Break and wanted to share it with you. ENJOY your break!

I’m having a bit of a wow moment. Five years ago today, I officially became a qualified Massage Therapist and started a very new journey. Nautilus Dublin Massage

In my previous working life, I was an executive assistant and worked a lot of hours supporting high level, very busy, very stressed out people. I decided that life was too short for that degree of anxiety and stress, and I decided to make a massive change.

When I see how far I’ve come, it’s truly humbling and my “work” still makes me ridiculously happy.

Even this week, I’ve had clients comment on the changes their regular massage treatments have made to their lives, beyond what they originally came in for.

One is training for their first marathon, but noticed that overall their stress level has decreased significantly at work and at home, and they feel they are dealing with issues in a much calmer, clear-headed way.

Another client, said that partially based on their first treatment, they decided to make some positive changes to their health, the biggest one being that they quit smoking.

Baby Massage is a truly wonderful skill to learn and is beneficial to both baby and parent. As a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, my role is to provide a relaxed and welcoming environment where parents are able to and encouraged to respond to their baby’s needs while learning massage strokes.

Definitely DO NOT worry about what happens if your baby is the one to cry, spit-up, poop all over, sleep, feed. . it’s what baby’s do, and I’ve seen it all. pouting babyThe ethos of these classes is that they are baby-led and flexible; we’re all in this together.

In case you’re wondering, I don’t massage your baby. These classes are a special, focused bonding time for you and your child. What I will do is demonstrate the massage stokes using a doll. Baby massage is suitable for newborns up to one year of age or before they reach the crawling/trying to walk phase.

During class, you’ll also get to share experiences and knowledge with each other, or a laugh or a cry, or a request or share a surplus of diapers or other treats collected at the most recent baby fair or event. New friendships and support networks have been formed in these classes, which is wonderful to see.


Some of the benefits of massaging your baby include: relieving colic & wind, promoting relaxation & aiding sleep, helping with weight gain & building immunity, aiding the bonding process & can assist in the recovery from post-natal depression.

If you have private insurance, most insurers will reimburse a portion of your class costs. Be sure to check your individual plan for details. The 5 week course is €125 and that includes massage stroke handouts so you don’t have to worry about remembering everything from class, massage oil, tea/coffee, and more! Each session lasts approximately an hour, sometimes a little longer.
